As a group we have decided to work on the tabing system that Oncourse currently is implementing. The changes that are needed to not have to be that extensive. Right now it takes a user several minutes to edit their tabs, when it could only take a couple of seconds. My is a change that will make this possible and also keep the familiarity of the current oncourse interface. In this design the More tab will be kept and when this tab is click the classes and semesters will be labled like before. The change will be that there will be a “+” symol added next to each semester and each class in the semesters. If on were to click the “+” next to the semesters the whole semesters classes will be added to main tabs. If the “+” next to a single class is clicked the individual class will be added to the tabs section. This will give the user an extremly easy way to change them without having to learn a new interface. Also there will be “x” added to the tabs so they can be easily removed!

Adam,
Not a bad idea at all. By giving students two quick options for adding their classes, this could most certainly cut down on time. One quick question though, when clicking on the “+” next to the listed semester, would it add only the lecture component on the main listing, or if lab/discussion sections existed, would those take precedence over other lectures that could be listed in its place? As long as we could address that minor detail, I’d say this system could work quite well, and would serve the needs of the students.

Adam,
I like the idea of having the + next to one of each tabs. I think this will make it easier for the user to customize their tabs. I also think that having the option to close or exit a tab with an x is a great idea. I think the simplicity of the design is good, since some users like some changes, but not too much.
Good job.

I think this has potential to be a good idea, but could you draw it? I think trying to keep a similar interface is a good idea so it doesn’t scare users. However, I think your concept should be changed a little bit more because right now it would still make the user have to click too many times to get where they are going.
