Sketch Design

Sketch

This is the main page of Oncourse, it would replace the current My worksite first page that has information that nobody cares about. The design is mainly based on the idea of iGoogle. The design is only an sketch, but it would have a lot more interaction with the user. It would facilitate the user to navigate the site as well as to customize it. The navigation left panel will display all the semesters in order, and they will be display upon a click, if the user desires to have a different class window, they can drag and drop it where they think is the most appropriate. As you can tell, there will be a box for each one of the courses with the information that is particular for each class, such as Announcements, Chat messages, and emails. Under each class there could be a tab that could have the option to pick from the lab or the lecture. (if available) Once you click on the window, the window will expand and become a full page, with the option to come back to see all the pages if desired. Once the user goes to a particular class page, they can interact with the same tabs that are available for all of the classes, such as Syllabus, resources, grades and such.

I believe that this design is way more interactive with the user and it fulfills the user needs much more than the current design.

I like the design (the sketch is amazing!) and think it has a lot of good aspects! The box idea is great and how it displays critical information is useful. Plus making the left side to where you can see past classes so it’s organized more successfully is also a good idea!

However, the only concern I have, is if this design really reduces the amount of time it takes for a student to move around. I feel you’d probably have to do the same amount of clicks to get from point A to point B.

On the other side of that, it is organized, I feel , in a easier to understand fashion. So this may increase the ease in which someone learns it. I know on Oncourse I still hesitate because the interface doesn’t make sense. I have to think about where I’m going and which of the labels it falls under. Not to mention that things are not always where you’d think they’d be. So if it was a little bit more organized/easy to understand that would infinitely help. Good job Ricky! n__n
